GST Department Raids J Infratech Ltd Over Rs. 35 Crore Tax Evasion Allegations in Assam
The State GST Department’s Enforcement Unit raided J Infratech Limited, a construction company based in Gurugram, over allegations of tax evasion worth Rs. 35 crore. The investigation is still ongoing at the company’s Dhubri premises in the Pratapganj region.
J Infratech Ltd, previously known as Jandu Construction India Pvt. Ltd, is currently working on the Four Lane Highway Project 127B, which connects Srirampur to Dhubri, one of Assam’s major infrastructure projects.
A team of eleven officers from the GST Enforcement Unit in Guwahati is leading the investigation. They have found several problems that point to major financial wrongdoing. The investigation is mainly focused on:
Unreported Movement of Goods: Officials are investigating the alleged transportation of construction materials without e-waybills, indicating attempts to hide payments and evade tax.
Fake Input Tax Credit (ITC) Claims: The company allegedly availed tax credits using Bogus invoices without any actual supply of goods or services. It is a major method of defrauding the exchequer.
Mohit Jandu, one of the company’s Managing Directors, has come under investigation for the financial discrepancies detected during the search, as per the sources.
The ongoing investigation is moving to its next stage and aims to find out exactly how much tax was evaded and collect enough proof to possibly take legal action.
Officials stated that this investigation is part of the GST Department’s data-driven crackdown on tax evasion, especially among works contractors and infrastructure firms handling government-funded projects in Assam.
