GST: AGFTC and ITBA Present Policy Suggestions to Finance Minister
Two professional tax organisations based in Gujarat, named the All Gujarat Federation of Tax Consultants (AGFTC) and the Income Tax Bar Association (ITBA), Ahmedabad, have recently delivered a formal communication dated August 12, 2025. The communication or letter is addressed to Nirmala Sitharaman, Honourable Finance Minister of India.
The Representation has been made for “Suggestions related to Policy & Procedures in GST”. These suggestions have been sent to important government bodies responsible for finance and taxation, specifically, the Ministry of Finance and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
By submitting this representation, AGFTC and ITBA want to help the government understand the practical challenges and issues faced by taxpayers and professionals. The formal communication is aimed at suggesting improvements in policies and procedures of GST to make them simpler, more transparent, and easier to comply with. The main objective is to present constructive suggestions about GST policies and procedures for the government’s consideration. This kind of representation reflects a healthy collaboration between tax experts and the government to improve the taxation system in India.
AGFTC was established in 1992 and is one of the most important regional bodies representing tax professionals in Gujarat. Its members include advocates, chartered accountants (CAs), and tax practitioners from across the state. It has a strong network of more than 2,000 members. The organisation works to support and strengthen the community of tax experts in Gujarat.
ITBA, Ahmedabad, is an even older association, founded in 1947, and is very respected in the region. It consists of tax advocates, chartered accountants, and other tax professionals based in Ahmedabad, with more than 1,100 members.
Both AGFTC and ITBA are committed to helping their members grow professionally. They also serve the public by promoting a better understanding of tax laws and policies. They regularly organise seminars, lectures, and knowledge-sharing programmes to educate people and act as a link between citizens and the government. Their goal is to encourage awareness and positive discussions about taxation.
