Taxpayers Across Country Receive Refunds Within Hours of Filing ITR
The Income Tax Return (ITR) filing deadline for Assessment Year 2025-26 is September 15, 2025, for the taxpayers whose accounts are not required to be audited. With this deadline, only 3 days are left for ITR filing. One of the main reasons people file their Income Tax Returns (ITR) early is to get their tax refund. This ITR season, the refunds of many taxpayers in India were credited within a few hours of filing and verification.
In the past, getting this refund used to take several weeks or even months. But this year, the immediate refunds have surprised everyone. One of the taxpayers claimed that they filed and e-verified their return at 10:45 AM. This was processed by the Income Tax Department’s Central Processing Centre (CPC) at 11:09 AM. And surprisingly, the taxpayer received the refund by 12:06 PM, in just 81 minutes.
There are many posts on platform X, where users have claimed to have received funds within a few hours. One user shared that his wife received the Income Tax Refund in her account within 7 hours of e-verification and 24 hours of ITR filing. Another user shared on Platform X, claiming that he filed his mother’s and father’s ITR at 1 PM and on the same day, by 4 PM, both the returns were processed and refunds were credited. He appreciated this effort of the Income Tax Department. There are several other posts, with some claiming to receive their Income Tax Refund within 2 hours.
This shows the improved efforts of the Income Tax Department in making the tax system more friendly and efficient for everyone. The refunds are getting credited fast due to the new features like pre-filled ITR forms, automated financial summaries, instant online verification, faster processing at the Centralised Processing Centre (CPC), and real-time bank credit.
This change is in alignment with the announcement made by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in this year’s budget. She highlighted that over the past decade, the government has made many changes to make tax filing easier, like faceless assessments, a Taxpayer Charter, faster refunds, and schemes like Vivad se Vishwas to reduce disputes. She also said the government now follows a “trust first, scrutinise later” approach when it comes to taxpayers.
