What is Chhath Puja?
Chhath Puja is an ancient Indian festival of Hindu religion. This festival is mainly celebrated in the states such as Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and others. As per the Hindu calendar, this festival is celebrated after 6 days of the Diwali festival or Tihar, on the sixth day of the lunar month of Kartika (October or November), also known by the name of Surya Shashti Vrata. The puja continues for three nights and four days and includes practices such as holy bathing, fasting, abstaining from drinking water (as a vrata), standing in water, and offering prasad (prayer offerings) and Arghya to the rising and setting of the Sun.
As per the environmentalists, Chhath Puja, as an Indian festival, is considered one of the most eco-friendly religious festivals in all over the world. The puja is dedicated to the God of the Sun i.e., Surya and also to Chhath Maiya. According to the beliefs of people and Vedic astrology, after performing this puja, Chhath Maiya grants children a long life and good health by keeping them away from illnesses and diseases.
