“Tax Deadlines Can Wait, But Health Cannot”: A Tax Professional’s Cautionary Line During Peak Tax Season
A tax professional named Senthil S Manian has shared a post on the platform ‘X’ addressing all his tax professional friends. In the post, he requested that all tax professionals prioritise their health more than work because their life and health are more valuable not only to them but also to their families. In this context, he shared about one of his problems. His problem was showing how much the workload increases for a tax professional during the tax filing peak season.
The post is attached with screenshots of MS Excel, Google Search, and a medical report. He said that he had been suffering from an eye issue for about 3 days, which was causing severe pain in his head. He also mentioned that he has been using specs for the past 7 years. When he consulted with his eye doctor, he got really scared from the words of the doctor after checking his eyes.
The doctor said that he has been affected by an eye disease called CSR (Central Serous Retinopathy) in his right eye. In this disease, fluid collects beneath the macula. Hence, the view becomes blurry, and things appear like shadows. The doctor also mentioned that he had visited the hospital in time; if it had been a few more days, then the issue would have troubled him much more. So, the doctor gave him suitable medicine and drops as part of the treatment and strictly mandated him to give at least his eyes rest.
The doctor told him his eyes and heart are really needy for rest, and his negligence can create more trouble for him in the future; the implications for this can be very painful, and his earnings will not answer this. He holds, Doctor, that he has been working only because of continuous deadlines; his earnings for the last three months are very, very low, and from next month he will be paid for his struggles. The doctor agreed and understood all his struggles; however, he still advised him to give rest to both his eyes and heart, as his problem was increasing day by day.
He further wrote that his whole family is in deep fear after listening to about his disease, and he is totally confused about what to do next. The due date for filing GSTR7 and GSTR1 was on his head, and he had a lot of work pressure, so he ignored the doctor and continued his work.
Now his negligence has further increased his problem; hence, he is humbly advising all the tax professionals to take care of their health in all measures. It will become more important if a country is affected by COVID or Omicron because once body organs are affected, it becomes difficult to spend the rest of one’s life peacefully. Further, he is suggesting this because he now regrets neglecting the advice of his family members and doctor and does not want others to regret the same.
In the end, he says, “Clients may have another tax professional, but our family has only us. No one will assist our family if we struggle on this field.”
Dear all #taxprofessionals friends. My Humble request to all. I feel more of us are in some suffering to run our profession. More are with more issues. But now I share my problems with all. Because our life and health are more valuable not only to us but for family also. Iam 1/2 pic.twitter.com/3julrmtTKS
