Central Government Revises Minimum Import Price Policy for Synthetic Knitted Fabrics

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry recently shared a notification on October 21, 2025, regarding a partial amendment in the Import Policy Condition of Synthetic Knitted Fabrics.

In powers given by Section 3 and Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, read with paragraphs 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), 2023, as amended from time to time, the Central Government had imposed Minimum Import Price (MIP) on certain ITC (HS) Codes of Synthetic Knitted Fabrics through Notification No. 77/2023 dated March 16, 2024, Notification No. 33/2024-25 dated October 1, 2024, and Notification No. 05/2025-26 dated April 23, 2025. The Central Government has made a change to the earlier Notification No. 5/2025-26 dated April 23, 2025.

This change is about updating (revising) the import policy for the product with ITC (HS) Code 60053600. Following is the revised Policy:

ITC (HS) Code Item Description Import Policy Existing Policy condition Revised Policy Condition
60053600 Of synthetic fibres : Other, unbleached or bleached Restricted However,Import is ‘Free’ if CIF value is 3.5 US Dollar and above per Kilogram Import is ‘Free’ if CIF value is 3.5 US Dollar and above per Kilogram. However, Import of fabrics falling within the 28 to 48 grams per square meter (GSM) range is exempted from the above Minimum Import Price (MIP) condition

The MIP (Minimum Import Price) rule for other HS Codes mentioned in the earlier Notification No. 05/2025-26 (dated April 23, 2025) will stay the same; there is no change there.

Also, companies that import materials under Advance Authorization, Export Oriented Units (EOUs), or SEZ (Special Economic Zones) will not have to follow the MIP rule, as long as the imported materials are not sold in the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) (i.e., not sold in the regular Indian market).
