Nagpur Businessman Duped of Rs 9.8 Lakh by Fraudster Posing as Bank Official
A 65-year-old businessman from Ramdaspeth was cheated of Rs 9.8 lakh by a cyber fraudster posing as a bank official. The accused tricked him into clicking on a link sent to his mobile phone on the pretext of preparing his pension card.
The complainant, Narendra Kane, who owns a plastic manufacturing company in the MIDC industrial area, told police that the incident took place on October 23 while he was at his workplace.
At around 4 pm, Kane received a call from an unidentified person who claimed to be calling from a bank. The caller told him that the bank was preparing his pension card and that he would receive a link on his mobile phone to complete the process.
Trusting the caller, Kane opened the link and entered the required details. Within minutes, two transactions of Rs 4.9 lakh each were made from his bank account, resulting in a total loss of Rs 9.8 lakh.
