Court Convicts Azam Khan and Son in 2019 Dual PAN Card Forgery Case; Sentenced to 7 Years

On Monday, November 17, 2025, Mohammad Azam Khan, leader of the Senior Samajwadi Party (SSP) and his son Abdullah Azam were found guilty by a special MP/MLA court and were directed to be jailed for a period of seven years for a 2019 case in which they were accused of getting two PAN cards by using different dates of birth, a prosecution officer said.

The Prosecution Officer Rakesh Kumar Maurya told reporters that Shobhit Bansal, the Special Magistrate of the MP/MLA Court, made this decision following a thorough examination of documentary evidence and witness testimonies.

The Prosecution Officer further said that their team will review the ruling given by the court and will check whether the punishment given for the committed offence is sufficient; if they find it inadequate, then they will file an appeal challenging the judgment.

Reporters asked Mr Maurya whether Azam Khan and his son would be taken into custody after the judgment; he answered, “Yes, absolutely.”

BJP leader Akash Saxena registered the present case at Rampur’s Civil Lines police station in 2019, under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for cheating), 471 (using forged document) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy).

According to the reports, a PAN was obtained by the accused from the Income Tax Department, which mentioned his Date of Birth (DOB) as January 1, 1993, which aligned with his birth date mentioned in his school, High School certificates and also in his State Bank of India (SBI) bank account records.

The court in its final decision has confirmed that Abdullah had used a forged PAN card “in conspiracy with his father” and submitted it in official records.
