Online Gaming Rules to Take Effect from May 1, 2026
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has recently released a notification (S.O. 1994(E) dated April 22nd, 2026) regarding the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025.
As per the notification, the Central government has announced that the new Online Gaming Act, 2025, will officially come into force on May 1, 2026.
This act seeks to ensure that online gaming is safe for players. Through this regulation, the government can regulate online games, prevent any criminal acts, and safeguard users from being scammed financially and becoming addicted.
The law also sets up the Online Gaming Authority of India and gives powers to police and cyber cell officers to investigate the offences under this new act.
Starting May 1, all online gaming platforms in India will have to follow the rules under this new law.
