Labour Ministry Empowers ESIC Officers as ‘Authorised Officers’ Under Social Security Code, 2020
The Ministry of Labour and Employment under the Government of India has empowered certain senior officers of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) to act as “Authorised Officers” under Chapter IV of the Code on Social Security, 2020 (36 of 2020), which deals with the Employees’ State Insurance scheme.
The Central Government has announced this decision through a Notification No. S.O. 2350(E), dated May 08, 2026, in pursuance of its powers granted by clause (5) of section 2 read with sub-section (1) of section 125 of the Code on Social Security, 2020 (36 of 2020).
According to the said notification, officers, including the Insurance Commissioner and Additional Commissioner, Regional Director Grade ‘A’, Director, Regional Director Grade ‘B’, Joint Director, and Deputy Director posted in ESIC Regional and Sub-Regional Offices, have been granted the aforementioned authority.
The officers can begin exercising their powers as an Authorised Officer from the date of publication of the present notification in the Official Gazette (i.e., from May 08, 2026), relating to Chapter IV (Employees’ State Insurance Corporation) of the said Code.
