Uttarakhand Tax Dept Recovers Rs 2.25 Crore From Eden Senior Living Over GST Irregularities

The Uttarakhand tax department has recovered Rs 2.25 crore from Eden Senior Living & Wellness, a private company that runs an assisted-living facility for senior citizens in Purkul. The recovery was made after officials found alleged irregularities in the payment of GST on the sale of flats.

The Special Investigation Branch (SIB) of the tax department inspected the company’s premises on Thursday, and the survey continued on Friday. Officials said the company had used input tax credit (ITC) claimed on construction-related purchases to pay GST on flat sales instead of paying the tax in cash.

The department estimated the company’s total tax liability at Rs 12.50 crore. The company has so far deposited Rs 2.25 crore with the state government, while its directors have asked for more time to pay the remaining amount.

Deputy Commissioner Suresh Kumar said the company was not legally allowed to use ITC for this particular tax liability. To verify the alleged irregularities, the investigation team collected documents and information from the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA), the district magistrate’s office, the mining section and other departments.

The team also seized records related to the company’s business activities. Kumar said that, based on the GST portal data and documents collected during the inspection, the company’s directors, legal advisers and other representatives admitted that there had been an error in the payment of tax.

The investigation team included Deputy Commissioner Suresh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Krishna Kumar and officials TR Chinyal, Alisha Bisht, Kanchan Thapa and Asad Ahmed.

Eden Senior Living & Wellness, located in Purkul, offers studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments for senior citizens.
