The CBI Court in Lucknow, on November 2, 2026, convicted Subodh Kumar Rastogi, the then Branch Manager of Bank of Baroda’s Balrampur Branch in Uttar Pradesh, in a bribery case. The court sentenced him to four years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 30,000.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the case on October 26, 2015, following a complaint by a borrower. The complainant had been sanctioned a loan of Rs. 5 lakh by the Bank of Baroda’s Balrampur Branch to expand his solar lights business.
According to the complaint, while releasing the first instalment of Rs. 1.25 lakh as a term loan, Rastogi allegedly took around Rs. 25,000 from the complainant on the pretext of CA charges, stamp paper expenses and file charges.
The complainant further alleged that after Rs. 3.75 lakh was credited to his account as a cash credit limit, Rastogi demanded another Rs. 25,000 as a bribe. He allegedly threatened to close the account if the complainant failed to pay the amount.
Following the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught Rastogi red-handed while accepting Rs. 10,000 from the complainant as illegal gratification.
After completing the investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Rastogi on December 18, 2015.
After the trial, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to four years in prison along with a fine of Rs. 30,000.
