Piyush Goyal Explains How Govt Will Deal with 50% Tariff Imposed by U.S.

The US President, Donald Trump, had recently announced a 50% tariff on the exports of India on August 27, 2025. The Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has recently added his statement, where he has explained how the government will deal with the tariff.

While speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Bharat Buildcode, Piyush Goyal said that the government is discussing with several countries to seek new opportunities to help the exporters who are significantly affected due to the high tariffs.

We will neither bow down nor ever appear weak,” Piyush Goyal stated, highlighting that India will not compromise its self-respect in trade negotiations.

He added that the Commerce Ministry is contacting countries to find new opportunities. The government aims to enhance domestic consumption, and the GST Council will be meeting next week to discuss changes.

India is discussing deals with 40 countries, including Japan, South Korea, the  United Arab Emirates, Britain, and Russia, etc to increase the textile exports. This will make sure that the tariff’s impact on the textile sector remains less. The Ministry of Industry will also schedule meetings with exporters from sectors like chemicals and jewellery this week to explore ways to promote exports in new markets and protect these industries.

As per reports, an official has shared information about the special campaigns that will be operated by India. Additionally, India is expected to participate in trade fairs and meetings under the Brand India Vision to boost India’s global share in Trade.
