Finance Ministry Notifies New Recruitment Rules 2025 for Assistant Director of Enforcement (Group ‘A’) in ED
The Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) has recently issued an official notification [F. No. A-12018/3/2022-Ad.ED], dated September 08, 2025, announcing the new recruitment rules for the post of Assistant Director of Enforcement (Group ‘A’ post) in the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance. These new rules are the replacement for the earlier Group ‘A’ Post, Recruitment Rules, 2020; however, anything already done under the old rules remains valid.
The government (President of India) has notified these new recruitment rules in exercise of its powers granted under the provisions of Article 309 of the Indian Constitution. The aim behind the implementation of these new rules is to regulate the method of recruitment to the post of Assistant Director of Enforcement in the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.
The following are the key amendments made in the existing Assistant Director Group ‘A’ Post, Recruitment Rules, 2020:
- The new amended Assistant Director Group ‘A’ Post Recruitment Rules will now be called the “Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, Directorate of Enforcement, Assistant Director of Enforcement (Group ‘A’ Post) Recruitment Rules, 2025.”
The new Recruitment Rules, 2025, are scheduled to take effect from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette, i.e., September 08, 2025. Meaning, presently, the revised rules have already come into effect.
- The notification mentions the total number of vacancies available for the post of Assistant Director Group ‘A’, their classification, pay scale, and method of recruitment.
So, according to the notification, there are a total of 255 vacancies available for the position of Assistant Director in ED. The post will be classified as the General Central Service, Group ‘A’, Gazetted, Non-Ministerial. The selected candidates at the specified position will be paid at Level-10 pay matrix (Rs. 56,100-Rs. 177,500). The post is a Selection in nature and has a probation period of two years.
- The method of recruitment will be both on a promotion and a deputation basis. Sixty per cent by promotion, failing which by deputation (including short-term contract); and forty per cent by deputation (including short-term contract). Candidates must not exceed the maximum age of fifty-six years to apply for the post. No, educational and other qualifications are applicable for direct recruits.
