More than 6.69 Cr ITR Filed: Will ITR Deadline Extend?
Today is the last day to file an Income Tax Return (ITR) for the Assessment Year 2025-26 for the non-audit cases. More than 6.29 crore returns have been filed, out of which over 5.79 crore ITRs have been verified, and 3.88 crore have been processed by the Income Tax Department.
If you fail to file your ITR by today, you will have to face a late fee and interest. Apart from this, you will lose the tax benefits and deductions under the old tax regime, and if you have any refunds, they will also be delayed.
However, there are still many taxpayers who are not ready for the ITR due date. Many taxpayers and professional bodies have submitted representations requesting the government to extend the ITR due date, citing several hardships. One of the most common difficulties faced by taxpayers is the ongoing technical issue on the income tax portal, which is affecting the ITR filing. Many CAs and Bodies have raised this concern with the government. However, as of now, there is no official announcement regarding the extension of the ITR filing due date. Therefore, taxpayers are advised to file their ITR on time to avoid penalties.
