CBI Cracks Down on Long-Absconding Bank Fraud Accused, Arrests Two Proclaimed Offenders From Delhi and Punjab

In separate bank fraud cases, two proclaimed offenders Jitendra Kumar and Pooja Pahwa have been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Both accused had been on the run from arrest and court action for a number of years.

Jitendra Kumar was arrested from Dwarka Mor in New Delhi on August 25, 2026. He was wanted in a home loan fraud case dating back to 2002-03. He allegedly obtained a home loan using forged salary certificates, causing a loss of Rs 65.90 lakh to GIC Housing Finance Limited. The loan account was declared a Non-Performing Asset (NPA) soon after the money was released.

The CBI filed a charge sheet against Kumar and 18 others in 2006. However, Kumar stopped appearing before the court in 2009. He was declared a proclaimed offender in January 2013. After sustained efforts, the CBI finally arrested him and will produce him before the competent court.

In another case, the CBI arrested Pooja Pahwa on August 4, 2026 from Ludhiana in Punjab. She was wanted in a case of bank fraud of misappropriation of a cash credit facility availed through forged documents. The alleged fraud caused a loss of Rs 10.16 crore to Indian Overseas Bank.

A charge sheet was filed against Pahwa and five others in 2017. A supplementary charge sheet was later filed against four bank officials for allegedly conspiring with the beneficiary company and other individuals. Pahwa had been avoiding court proceedings since 2022 and was declared a proclaimed offender in 2023. She is currently in judicial custody.

The CBI said it remains committed to identifying, arresting and bringing to justice those involved in economic fraud and financial crimes.
