CBIC Announces Online Registration for Eligible Manufacturer Importer (EMI) Scheme
On March 3, 2026, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) announced that registration for the Eligible Manufacturer Importer (EMI) Scheme is now available on the AEO India Portal, i.e., https://aeoindia.gov.in, from March 1, 2026.
Companies that want to apply under this scheme can now complete their online registration on the portal. However, they will only be able to submit the EMI application after their registration is approved by the Directorate of International Customs (DIC).
According to the EMI Registration User Guide on the AEO portal, applicants must make sure that their registration details exactly match the details in their DGFT IEC profile. If the details do not match, the registration may be rejected.
During registration, applicants must upload one merged PDF document. This PDF should contain:
- The IEC certificate and
- A screenshot of the “View IEC Profile” page from the DGFT portal, showing the registered email ID and mobile number.
Registration Process
The following are the steps of registration:
1. Go to the AEO Portal homepage and click the “Registration” link.
2. In the “Register for” dropdown, select “EMI”. The correct DIC zone will fill automatically.
3. Enter Email ID and Mobile Number exactly as shown in your DGFT IEC profile.
4. Upload one merged PDF containing:
- IEC Certificate
- Screenshot of “View IEC Profile” page
5. You will receive an OTP on your registered email for verification.
6. After OTP verification, the request is sent to the concerned DIC officer.
7. Once the DIC officer approves, you will receive a confirmation email.
8. After approval, you can start filing the EMI application on the portal.
Objective
The EMI scheme aims to support compliant manufacturing importers and make the process more organised, secure, and digital through the AEO portal.
Advice for Applicants
CBIC also advised applicants to read the EMI Scheme Registration User Guide on the AEO India Portal carefully before starting the registration process to avoid errors.
