December 2025 Tax Calendar: Crucial Income Tax, GST, and Compliance Deadlines You Must Not Miss

We have all stepped into a new month of December; it is crucial to be aware of all key compliance dates of this month. December includes several significant tax and compliance deadlines that every business, professional, and company should be aware of. This month also includes several filing deadlines, such as Income Tax returns, GST returns, TDS payments, company-related filings, and employee contribution submissions. Here is the list of all major compliance dates in December.

December 10, 2025: Due Date to Furnish ITR For Non-Audit Cases

As we all are aware, the central board of direct taxes (CBDT) had earlier extended the due date for filing the income tax returns (ITRs) for audit cases from October 31, 2025, to December 10, 2025, granting chartered accountants, tax professionals, taxpayers, businesses, etc. extra time to complete their filings for assessment year 2025-26.

December 31, 2025: Due Date to Furnish Belated and Revised

Taxpayers who were liable to file an income tax return (ITR) for the financial year 2024-25; however, could not furnish it before the statutory deadline, i.e., September 16, 2025, or those taxpayers who had filed their returns before the deadline but have discovered mistakes in them can file a belated or revised return till December 31, 2025.

According the Section 234F of the Income Tax, missing the statutory deadline of ITR filing attracts a late fee of upto Rs. 5000. The section says Rs. 1,000 is imposed if your income is less than or equal to Rs. 5 lakhs, and a Rs. 5,000 penalty is imposed when your income is more than 5 lakhs. Additionally, a penalty of up to Rs. 10,000 can be imposed in case of foreign assets/income under the Black Money Act.

A revised return helps taxpayers correct their mistakes made while filing the initial income tax return (ITR) before the legal compliance deadline. However, remember this is the last time you will be able to make changes to your filed return, and this chance will expire after December 31, 2025. After this deadline, taxpayers will be left with only one option, i.e., an Updated Return (ITR-U). On one hand, this option of filing an updated return allows taxpayers to correct their errors beyond the normal due date; on the other hand, it carries an additional liability of 25 to 50 per cent over and above the tax and interest payable.

December 31, 2025: Due Date to Link Aadhar With PAN

Individuals whose Aadhaar cards were issued on or before October 1, 2024, are obliged to get their Aadhaar linked with PANs on or before December 31, 2025. If not linked before this deadline, then your PAN will be deactivated, and as we all are aware, a deactivated PAN carries a lot of restrictions:

  • Your income tax return will not be filed or verified.
  • Your refund will be withheld; pending returns will not be processed.
  • TDS/TCS credits will not be reflected in Form 26AS.
  • TDS/TCS may be deducted or collected at a higher rate.

If anyone links their aadhaar with PAN later, then his/her PAN will be reactivated within 30 days of linking.
