Deferred Onboarding of over 10000 Freshers by large IT Companies
As a major process change in the Indian job market, most of the IT giants, like Infosys, Wipro and TCS, among others, are holding thousands of entry-level candidates from joining their organizations. According to the report, which quotes data sourced from the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), as many as 10,000 freshmen are in a state of suspense as they are still waiting for their joining date.
These candidates have been offered opportunities at the industry’s leading players like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Zensar, and LTIMindtree, and yet they all seem to be on the same page, which is what led the officers of NITES to conclude that there is indeed a problem at the IT companies.
This is happening at a time when, all around, a significant decline has been witnessed in the total employment figures of TCS, Infosys, and Wipro, wherein a reduction of about 64000 employees has been observed in the financial year 2023-2024.
In recent communication, as per the report, the management of Infosys has communicated to candidates that their DOJ will be decided based on the business requirements, and such notifications will be sent e at least three to four weeks in advance.
In the mail sent to the candidates, Infosys wrote, “The Joining Date will be assigned on the basis of business requirements and will be sent at least 3-4 weeks prior to joining.”
In the current year, it recruited only 11,900 graduates, whereas in the previous year, it had recruited 50,000.
Similar troubles can be observed at Wipro; its officers stated that many offers that were extended two years ago have not been finalized. He said in a report “Before last year, the company visited the campus and pitched many offers in front of the Students and agreed to honour these offers, but up until this time, we have not honoured these offers. We will finalise these offers and then hire freshmen; we plan to induct freshmen this year, but can’t vouch for a figure as the macro environment is very volatile.”
