EPFO Extends Deadline for Filing ECR for December 2025 Wage Month

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has announced an extension of the due date for filing the Electronic Challan-cum-Return (ECR) for the wage month of December 2025. As per the official circular issued by EPFO, the due date for filing ECR is now extended to January 20, 2026.

The decision comes after EPFO received several representations from the employers and other stakeholders across the country. These representations highlighted the technical and operational issues faced while filing ECR for the December 2025 wage month. Considering these issues, EPFO decided to give a five-day extension to ensure the smooth filing and compliance. Now employers can file their ECR up to January 20, 2026,

The EPFO clearly mentioned in its circular that this extension is a special measure. The main aim is to give the employers enough time to complete their filings without unnecessary pressure due to technical issues. Therefore, employers must use this extended period and make sure they file their return on time.

EPFO has also given relief from the unnecessary consequences during the extended period. It has clarified that no interest or damages will be imposed on ECRs and payments if they are filed within the extended due date of 20th January, 2026.
