Finance Bill 2026 Cleared by Lok Sabha; Budget 2026-27 Moves to Rajya Sabha

On March 26, 2026, the Lok Sabha passed the Finance Bill 2026 along with 32 changes suggested by the government.

With this, the Lok Sabha has finished its role in approving the Union Budget for 2026-27. The bill will now go to the Rajya Sabha for approval. Once the Rajya Sabha passes it, the budget process for the financial year 2026-27 will be fully completed.

In the Union Budget 2026-27, the government has planned to spend Rs 53.47 lakh crore in total. This is 7.7% more than what is being spent in the current financial year, which ends on March 31.

Out of this, Rs 12.2 lakh crore is set aside for capital expenditure. This means money that will be used to build assets like roads, railways, infrastructure, and other development projects.

The government expects to collect Rs 44.04 lakh crore through taxes. It also plans to borrow Rs 17.2 lakh crore to meet its expenses.

The fiscal deficit is expected to be 4.3% of GDP in 2026-27. This is slightly lower than the 4.4% projected for the current financial year.
