Google lays off Employees in Finance and Real Estate Department as part of Restructuring and Cutting Costs

Tech Giant Google has cut down an unspecified number of employees as part of its effort to restructure and conducted to cut costs.

The laying off of employees this time is considered to be one of the hefty cut down in jobs. This cut down in jobs is going to take place in the finance and real estate departments. Earlier this week, the layoffs were announced to the employees.

According to a company spokesperson, the layoffs are being carried out in order to reduce expenses.

He further stated the affected employees will have the opportunity to apply for other internal positions. A few of the affected roles will relocate to abroad countries including Chicago, Atlanta, Dublin, and India.

“It was previously said that the company is carefully investing in their major objectives to grasp the important opportunities that lie ahead, ” he added. Whether this affects other business divisions or how many jobs are being cut is yet unknown at this time.

An employee described the moves as “pretty large scale,” with certain employees being moved abroad.

Fears that layoffs might continue as businesses struggle with economic uncertainty. This layoff comes after a wave of job cuts throughout Google and the IT and media industries this year.

The spokesman said, “A number of our teams made changes throughout the second half of 2023 and into 2024 to become more productive and perform better, remove the layers, and align their resources to their greatest product priorities.”

According to a report of a Business Insider, “Ruth Porat, Google’s finance chief informed employees via email that part of the restructure included increasing growth to Bangalore, Mexico City, and Dublin.”

In January, Google cut off hundreds of employees from a variety of departments, including its hardware, engineering, and assistant teams as it increased funding and expanded its artificial intelligence services.

At the beginning of the year, Google CEO Sundar Pichai informed the workers to anticipate more layoffs.
