GST Dept. Unveils GST Evasion Case: Ujaif Agro Rice Mill Pays Rs. 50 Lakh Amid Raid
A team of GST SIB, Bareilly, has raided the site of a businessman, the owner of Ujaif Agro Rice Mill, registered in Amaria, Pilibhit. He is accused of evading GST. The businessman has deposited Rs. 50 lakh as GST (Goods and Services Tax).
The investigation concluded that the owner was involved in running a rice mill and was not paying sufficient GST on his produce, despite displaying production of rice bran below the standard. The firm reported sales of rice and poultry feed worth Rs. 85 crore but showed sales of rice bran of only Rs. 83 lakh, which is an understated value. However, when rice is produced, at least 6% of it naturally comes out as rice bran.
The firm is also guilty of contravention of GST provisions by adjusting the tax amount payable on the sale of rice bran irregularly through Input Tax Credit (ITC) instead of depositing the tax amount in cash. During the probe, the firm admitted that they had evaded GST and hence, during the investigation itself, paid 50 lakh. The remaining tax they are liable to pay is being analysed based on confiscated documents and facts found during the investigation.
