The Public Relations Committee under the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) recently released a press release on November 7, 2025 regarding ICAI signs MoU with Indian Army for Real-time UDIN Verification.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has signed an agreement known as Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Army Purchase Organisation (APO), Directorate General of Supply and Transport (DGST), Indian Army, and Ministry of Defence (MoD) to check the real-time verification Application Programming Interface (API) integrated within the vendor registration process of the Army Purchase Organisation (APO).

The Memorandum of Understanding agreement is meant to make sure that all financial papers signed or certified by Chartered Accountants (CAs) are genuine, easy to check, and trustworthy.

The agreement was officially signed in a ceremony that was led by CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda (President of ICAI) along with CA. Prasanna Kumar D (Vice-President, ICAI) and CA. (Dr.) Jai Kumar Batra (Secretary, ICAI). Lieutenant General Mukesh Chadha, AVSM, SM, VSM, Director General of Supplies and Transport and Senior Colonel Commandant, along with senior officials from his team, also attended the event representing the Indian Army. The convenor and deputy convenor of the UDIN Directorate were also present at the event.

CA. Charanjot Singh Nanda, President, ICAI, while giving a speech, said, “The UDIN initiative has been a landmark in promoting authenticity and curbing malpractices in document certification. This collaboration with the Indian Army marks another milestone in extending the benefits of technology-driven transparency to key national institutions.”

This agreement highlighted that the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is committed to promoting good governance, honesty, and responsibility in the way financial work is done.

It also pointed out that ICAI is actively working with government departments, like the Indian Army, to build strong and efficient systems that people can trust and that help improve the way institutions function.

The Indian Army’s Directorate General of Supply and Transport (DGST) recommended connecting the ICAI’s Unique Document Identification Number (UDIN) system to their own computer system through an Application Programming Interface (API). By doing this, the Army’s vendor registration process, where companies apply to become approved suppliers will become quicker, safer, and more reliable.

This connection will let the Army instantly check whether the financial documents submitted by vendors are genuine and truly certified by a chartered accountant. It will also reduce human errors and prevent fake documents from being used.

This initiative is an important step in ICAI’s use of technology to make financial reporting and governance more transparent and trustworthy. By working together, ICAI and APO/DGST are creating a strong example of how digital tools can improve accountability and make document verification easier across government systems.
