Income Tax Dept. Summons an Individual for Distributing Relief Funds to Flood-Affected Villagers
A person named Rajesh Ranjan, having PAN AENPR3822G, has received an Income Tax Notice dated October 16, 2025, from the Office of the Assistant Director of Income Tax, the Income Tax Department. The person resides at 11A, Balwant Rai Mehta Lane, New Delhi, Delhi, India 110001. The notice is subject to “Summons To Assessee/Witness Under Section 131(1a) of the Income Tax Act 1961”. In the notice, the department asked Rajesh to appear at the office at Central Revenue Building, Patna, Bihar, on October 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
Additionally, we asked Rajesh to either appear personally or through an authorised representative to give evidence and/or show the books of account or other required documents. Also, directed him not to leave the office until permitted to do so, and if unable to attend or if he fails to provide the asked information or documents, then a penalty amounting to Rs. 10,000 will be imposed on him for each failure under Section 272A(1)(c) of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
The Income Tax Department further specified in the notice that on 09.10.2025, he is alleged to have distributed cash amounts ranging from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,000 per person to flood-affected residents of Maniyari village, under Nayagaon East Panchayat, District Vaishali. Hence, he is required to give an explanation to the department on this matter, along with all supporting documents as evidence showing the source of the money that was used for this cash distribution.
A user has recently shared a post on platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), stating that, “I have received an income tax notice; it has labelled distributing money to help flood victims as a crime. If this is a crime, then I will always continue to commit the crime of helping every deprived victim!”
He said, if he had not helped the flood victims of Maniyari village, under the Nayagaon East Panchayat of Vaishali district, whose homes were all submerged in the Ganges, would the Minister of State for Home Affairs have remained a mute spectator like self-proclaimed CM candidates like the local MP?
