Iran Includes India as One of Its “Friendly Countries” to Pass Strait of Hormuz

India has been included in the list of “Friendly Countries” by Iran to pass the Strait of Hormuz, which was earlier closed due to the conflict in West Asia. As per Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, other countries include China, Russia, Iraq, and Pakistan.

The Strait of Hormuz is an important sea passage from the Persian Gulf to the open ocean, acting as the main route for exports from Saudi Arabia, Iran, the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar. Around 20 million barrels of oil and related products pass through the strait on a daily basis. However, due to the US/Israel airstrikes, the passage has been restricted only to the “friendly” nations. This closure of the Strait of Hormuz had led to a rise in the prices of global oil and gas.

However, Araghchi said that the vessels connected to Iran’s adversaries will not be allowed to transit through the strait.

We are in a state of war. The region is a war zone, and there is no reason to allow the ships of our enemies and their allies to pass through. But it remains open to others,” Araghchi said.

As per the International Energy Agency, the war has resulted in the biggest supply disruptions in the history of the global oil market.
