ITBA Files Writ Petition in Gujarat High Court Urging ITR and TAR Deadline Extension for FY 2024-25

The Income Tax Bar Association (ITBA) has filed a writ petition (Special Civil Application No. 30154 of 2025), dated September 23, 2025, against the Union of India (respondent) before the Honorable Gujarat High Court, requesting to direct the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to extend the due date for filing the Income Tax Returns (ITRs) and Tax Audit Reports (TAR) for the financial year 2024-25 (assessment year 2025-26).

The Income Tax Bar Association (ITBA) has also shared this action on its Twitter handle, platform ‘X,’ saying, “The Income Tax Bar Association filed a Writ Petition before the Hon’ble Gujarat High Court for directing CBDT for Extension of Tax Audit & ITR Deadlines.”

In the past, the All Gujarat Federation of Tax Consultants (AGFTC) and the Income Tax Bar Association (ITBA), Ahmedabad, also wrote a formal representation to the Hon’ble Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman and the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), requesting to extend the due date for filing the Income Tax Returns (ITRs) and Tax Audit Reports (TARs) for the Assessment Year (AY) 2025-26. For making this request, the associations cited reasons including continuous glitches in the income tax portal, fewer working days due to the festive season, overlapping of other compliance due dates, etc. Hence, the government was urged to extend the due date for ITR (non-audit cases) and TAR filing till October 15, 2025, and November 30, 2025, respectively.
