SEBI Tightens Governance with New Employee Service Regulation Changes [Read Notification]
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has recently made changes to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Employees’ Service) Regulations, 2001, under section 30 of the SEBI Act, 1992 (15 of 1992). This regulation’s name has been changed to Securities and Exchange Board of India (Employees’ Service) Regulations, 2025, and it is considered that this rule has been applicable from June 18, 2025.
Here are the introduced amendments:
In SEBI (Employees’ Services) Regulations, 2001, in the Schedule, in the Table, the following changes are made:
In Row 2 of Column 1, after the words and symbols “post of Executive Director (Law”, the words and symbols “/Litigation) and Executive Director (Information Technology” will be added.
In row 2 of column 2, the words and symbols “from relevant streams” shall be inserted after the words and symbols “(a) promotion.”
In row 2, in column 2, the words and symbols “2/3rd of the total posts from internal candidates and 1/3rd posts, not more than 3, to be filled up by deputation/ contract” will be replaced with “Not more than 3 posts to be filled up by deputation/contract and remaining posts from internal candidates through promotion“.
In row 3, in column 1, the words and symbols “/Litigation” will be added after the words and symbols “Executive Director (Law“.
In row 3 of column 3, the words “Not less than 40 years and not more than 55 years” will be added before the word “LLB from a recognised university.
After row 3 and before row 4, of column 1, a new row called “Executive Director (Information Technology)” will be introduced.
After row 3, and before row 4 of column 3, a new row will be added as follows:
“Not less than 40 years and not more than 55 years
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering in any branch or Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with a post graduate qualification (minimum two years’ duration) in computer science/ computer application/ information technology from a recognized University/ Institute with a minimum of 20 years of post-qualification experience in information technology.”.
After row 3 and before row 4, in column 4, a new row will be added as “Deputation from Govt., RBI, Banks, Financial Institutions, having Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering in any branch or Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with a post graduate qualification (minimum two years’ duration) in computer science/ computer application/ information technology from a recognized University/ Institute with a minimum of 20 years of post-qualification experience in information technology.“.
