Union Agriculture Minister Likely to Chair a Meeting Today on GST Reforms for Agricultural Machinery
Today, September 19, the Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, is expected to chair a meeting on GST Reforms for Agricultural Machinery. All representatives of the Tractor and Mechanisation Association (TMA), Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers Association (AMMA), All India Combine Harvester Manufacturers Association (AICMA), Power Tiller Association of India (PTAI), and other related organisations are likely to attend the meeting in New Delhi.
In the meeting, the council will discuss different ways or techniques to ensure the full benefit of the GST rate reduction on agricultural machinery and equipment (from 12-18% to 5%), reaching out to farmers. Additionally, for the smooth implementation of these GST reforms, the council will also discuss appropriate strategies.
The GST rate reductions, recently approved by the 56th GST council meeting held on September 3-4, 2025, will lower prices of tractors and other machinery and will be accessible for farmers at affordable rates. Rates on agriculture-related machinery will reduce by 7-13%. Farmers will benefit in two ways: subsidy schemes and reduction in prices due to GST reforms, while local Indian companies engaged in the manufacturing of farming machinery will get an advantage and become more competitive under the Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) plan.
