Centre Relaxes Tobacco Board Act to Allow Sale of Excess FCV Tobacco in Karnataka

The Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry shared a notification on December 19, 2025 regarding Sale of excess Tobacco produced in the State of Karnataka for 2025-26.

The Central Government believes that the current situation requires it, for the benefit of the general public to relax some of the rules set under the Tobacco Board Act, 1975.

The Central Government considers that, in the interest of the public, it is necessary to clear excess Flue Cured Virginia (FCV) tobacco produced by registered growers and unauthorised FCV Tobacco of unregistered growers.

The government has decided to allow such tobacco to be sold through the authorised auction platforms of the Tobacco Board in Karnataka. For this purpose, the government relaxed the operation of the provisions of Section 10(1) read with section 14A (1) of the Tobacco Board Act, 1975, only for the 2025-26 crop season in Karnataka.
