PM Modi’s Health Insurance for 70+; Will this Scheme protect Middle Class and benefit BJP in 2024 Election Battle
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will implement his promise to provide Ayushman Bharat medical insurance coverage to all Indians over 70 if the BJP wins power. This will benefit more than six crore senior citizens individuals in the country.
According to a Union minister, the BJP included this provision in the agenda based on extensive public response.
The majority of insurance companies do not provide coverage to individuals over 70 since they expect a large volume of claims from this age group. The minister clarified that many middle-class families cannot afford the huge annual premiums charged by the few insurers who provide medical insurance to anyone over the age of 70.
There are also pre-ailment restrictions that prevent coverage for pre-existing conditions for two to three years, said another government source.
The source further explained, “To put it briefly, even though you pay a high premium, the policy is not effective for two to three years.”
“This insurance is required by the people who are over 70 years of age due to prone to illness because of low immunity or already having major health crises like kidney, lung, brain or heart diseases, “he added.
After the Covid-19 epidemic, people over 70 are more prone to losing their immunity, making the situation even more dangerous, another government source said.
“A lot of people over 70 who suffer from chronic illnesses need expensive medical treatment, but the middle class is forced to pay for it out of pocket or pay high premiums that are out of their price range,” the source added.
