UAE announced New Federal Traffic Law

UAE Cabinet approved a new federal law on traffic on Monday, as per Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.

This new law amended the classification of vehicles and usage of the latest technologies on the road. The aim of the law is to stay up with the rapid growth of the global transportation industry.

The Ruler of Dubai – Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said that the new law will focus on the growth of the use of self-driving vehicles and electric automobiles.

Diverse types of personal means of transportation and overall dependency on transportation will also be covered under this law.

The provisions of the law also emphasize the categories that are not eligible to receive a driver’s license, the suspension of driving licenses and permits, vehicle insurance and inspection, and driving school regulations.

The federal traffic law will benefit from technological developments that define the country’s road network.

Sheikh Mohammed introduced this law in a UAE Cabinet meeting that chaired by him. In the meeting, various matters were considered and approved in accordance with the country’s commitment to development.

Communicable Illnesses

UAE’s Residents now have regulations that will assist in battle with communicable diseases.

The new legislation will examine the requirements essential for developing a legal framework to help with responding to such diseases.

Based on the disease’s nature, severity and spreading capacity, this law emphasizes the prevention, monitoring, reporting, and management of each disease.

Tourists Protection

UAE is one the countries that ranked as the safest country in the world and this one quality attracts tourists from all over the world.

The UAE Cabinet also approved recommendations of the International Code for the Protection of Tourists and the country’s commitment to the principles issued by the United Nations Tourism Organization which is in line with efforts to provide better services for international tourism.

Emirati Genome Programme

In a global first-of-its-kind, a federal decree law was issued, and controlling the use of the human genome as part of this programme.

The Emirati Genome Programme with a sample collection of more than 600,000, this programme aims to develop a map of genetic and hereditary diseases in the country.

The Dubai ruler said in a trial programme, that pre-marital screening would be expanded to include all genetic and hereditary diseases.

Over 1,000 medical staff have been trained to assist in this program. The collection of DNA samples from various parts of the country will also aid in the making of medicines specific to prevalent diseases.

Money Laundering Laws

The country is also working to prevent practices such as money laundering and financing terrorism as a developed economy.

The Unified List which is a recently passed segment of law, has 41 penalties for fighting such financial crimes.

Membership of BRICS

Lately, the United Arab Emirates has joined the global economic group BRICS. UAE as a country, is now eager to build economic bridges across different blocs all over the world and sustain global economic relationships.

To represent the UAE in follow-up to its contribution to several working groups within the BRICS financial track, the Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the Central Bank was chosen.

Accelerating Economic Development

During the meeting of the UAE Cabinet, for the development of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) in the country, the formation of a working group was approved.

The Ministry of Economy will lead this group and will strengthen FCCI’s contribution to the economy.

The group will work towards building new global partnerships and allowing local businesses to reach international markets.

Digital Transformation

AI (artificial intelligence) is going to take over the globe and one of the most pressing concerns is its ethical use. With the UAE’s leadership position in AI, it intends to address these concerns.

The Cabinet approved the Ethical Charter of AI Development and Use, which ensures responsible technological use and respect for human values, in line with the goal.

To fulfil the futuristic vision of governance, the country has adopted a framework for establishing a paperless government programme and creating manuals to guide the treatment of digital waste, such as old digital devices in the central government.
