Govt. appoints Manoj Panda as New Finance Commission Member
The Government of India appoints former director of the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG), Manoj Panda as a full-time member of the 16th Finance Commission. This appointment fills up the vacant post available at the finance panel. The Finance panel was working with only three full-time members and a Chairperson till now.
On the appointment of a full-time member, the official notificaiton stated, “The above Commission’s Member shall hold the office from the date of assuming office up to the date of submission of Report or 31st October 2025, whichever is earlier.”
Panda is a great economist and previously worked as RBI Chair Professor at the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG). Panda’s appointment means a lot to this finance panel, now the finance commission is at full strength and can start its work anytime soon with full force. Its work includes visits to states and discussions with municipal bodies and locals as well as meeting with economists and experts to get a thorough view of their financial issues.
The 16th Finance Commission was constituted on 31st Dec 2023 and afterwards appointed its Chairperson and members on 31st Jan 2024. It is anticipated that the Commission will submit its report by 31st Oct 2025.
